You kick the down comforter off at 2 a.m., pull it back at 4, and wake up damp. That’s usually when people start looking at wool. Sleep & Beyond is one of the best-known names in wool bedding, but its shop makes the choice harder than it should be. 😅
It sells four comforters that look almost the same in the photos. In this Sleep & Beyond review, I’ll show you the two things that really differ between them, which one fits which sleeper, and the return rule to know before you order.
I haven’t slept under these comforters. This review is based on the shop’s product details and policies, 175 buyer reviews on its own site, and the sleep studies on wool bedding, including a 2016 lab study that tested wool bedding against polyester.
The short answer
Sleep & Beyond’s wool comforters are well made and well reviewed. Hot sleepers should start with the washable myComforter Light ($229, full/queen). Want certified organic? Choose myMerino, but it can’t be washed. The catch: used comforters can’t be returned, so there’s no sleep trial.

Sleep & Beyond at a glance

Sleep & Beyond myComforter Light
★★★★☆ 4.2/5
Best for: hot sleepers who want a washable, all-wool comforter. Skip if: you want to try it first.
Sleep & Beyond is a wool and organic cotton bedding brand that ships US orders from Fontana, California. Its comforters are filled with wool only: no feathers, no polyester. Each one is box-quilted, so the wool can’t drift to one end, and has corner loops for a duvet cover.
Four comforters, two real differences
Here’s the thing the product pages bury in their FAQs: the four comforters are built the same way. Only two things change. The first is how much wool is inside (the fill weight, in grams per square metre). The second is which wool: certified organic Merino, or natural Shropshire wool that has been treated so it can go in the washing machine.
| Comforter | Fill and season | Washable? Price (full/queen) |
|---|---|---|
| myComforter Light | 200 g/m² washable wool; spring to fall, or hot sleepers | ✅ Yes; $229 |
| myComforter | 430 g/m² washable wool; all four seasons | ✅ Yes; $319 |
| myMerino Light | 200 g/m² organic Merino; spring to fall | ❌ No; $329 |
| myMerino | 530 g/m² organic Merino; all four seasons | ❌ No; $379 |

Why can’t the organic one be washed? The maker says the organic standard it is certified to (GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard) doesn’t allow the treatments that make wool machine-washable. Washed, untreated Merino can felt and shrink. So the organic choice comes with a duvet cover, not a washing machine.
Which Sleep & Beyond comforter should you buy?

Answer three questions in this order, and the choice makes itself:
- Do you sleep hot, or is your bedroom warm? Go Light (200 g/m²). The heavier versions are made for year-round use, including winter. Our guide to the ideal sleeping temperature explains why, under covers, heat disturbs sleep more than cold.
- Do you need to wash it yourself? Kids, pets or allergies? Choose a myComforter (washable wool). If a duvet cover is enough, either line works.
- Does certified organic matter to you? Then myMerino or myMerino Light, and keep it in a duvet cover.
For most hot sleepers, that lands on the myComforter Light: the lightest fill, machine washable, and the lowest price. It’s also the shop’s most-reviewed comforter. Sharing the bed with someone who runs cold? Two different weights on one bed work well, which is the idea behind the “Scandinavian sleep method” in our sleep divorce guide.
Does a wool comforter really help you sleep?

Wool feels drier than down or polyester, and that’s the main reason people love it. But “sleep’s best ally”, as the shop puts it, goes further than the research does.
The best lab test I found is a 2016 study from the University of Sydney. Seventeen young adults slept nine nights in a sleep lab, in cotton or wool pyjamas, under polyester or wool bedding, at 17°C or 22°C (63°F or 72°F). Wool pyjamas helped them fall asleep faster. But the researchers found no effect of the bedding on sleep.
A 2024 review of nine studies came to a similar place. Wool pyjamas helped some people fall asleep, while goose down duvets increased deep sleep in cool conditions. The authors said the fibres are hard to compare. Worth knowing, too: the wool industry (Australian Wool Innovation) funded part of this research.
Honest take: a wool comforter can make a warm night feel less clammy, which is real comfort. It isn’t proven to make you sleep longer or deeper, and it won’t fix night sweats that have a medical cause.
What buyers say

I read 175 reviews of the three older comforters on Sleep & Beyond’s own site: all of myMerino’s and myComforter’s, and 100 of myComforter Light’s 128 (myMerino Light is too new to have any). They average 4.84 to 4.94 out of 5. The same themes come up again and again:
- Temperature is the big one: many former down owners say they no longer overheat, and still feel warm enough in winter.
- Washing: myMerino owners wish it were machine washable, and several say to use a duvet cover from day one.
- Smell: a few mention a light natural wool smell that goes after airing it out. The shop says this lanolin scent fades within one to two weeks.
- Stock: one buyer had to take a king because the queen was sold out, and another waited two weeks for a backorder.
Two caveats. The site shows only 4- and 5-star reviews, and the newest one I found was from April 2022. So treat the scores as happy customers’ stories, not an independent rating.
Price, shipping and the return catch

myComforter Light (full/queen)
$229
- Crib $119, twin $199, king $249, super king $279
- Free shipping over $500 (48 contiguous states); 3 to 7 business days
- Returns within 30 days, unused and in the original packaging only
Prices and policies checked on the official site on 28 October 2026.
Now the catch. Many bedding brands let you sleep on a product for weeks and still send it back. Sleep & Beyond doesn’t: its policy says items that have been used, laundered or taken out of the original packaging can’t be refunded or exchanged. The original shipping isn’t refunded either, even on free-shipping orders, and a prepaid return label is taken off your refund.
So buy the weight you’re sure of. If you’re between two, the lighter one is the safer bet for a hot sleeper, since you can always add a throw on top.
Who should skip Sleep & Beyond?
- You want to try before you commit: there’s no sleep trial on used bedding.
- Wool irritates your skin or you react to lanolin.
- You want organic and machine washable in one: here you have to pick one.
- Your budget is tight: even the cheapest queen-size wool comforter here is $229, and shipping is only free over $500.
The comforter is only half the bed. If you sleep hot, your sheets matter too: our cotton vs bamboo vs TENCEL guide compares the cooler fabrics, and our Egyptian Linens review covers sheets in odd sizes.

FAQ
Is a Sleep & Beyond comforter good for hot sleepers?
The Light versions are the ones made for warm sleepers and warm months, with 200 g/m² of wool instead of 430 or 530. Wool feels drier than down or polyester, though studies haven’t shown that wool bedding itself changes sleep.
Can you wash a Sleep & Beyond comforter?
The myComforter and myComforter Light are filled with washable wool. The organic myMerino comforters should not be washed, because untreated Merino can shrink; the maker suggests a duvet cover.
What is the difference between myMerino and myComforter?
myMerino is filled with certified organic Merino wool in a 400 thread count organic cotton cover and can’t be washed. myComforter uses natural washable Shropshire wool in a 300 thread count cotton cover and costs less.
Can you return a Sleep & Beyond comforter?
Only if it’s new and unused, in its original packaging, within 30 days of delivery. Used or laundered bedding can’t be returned, and the original shipping isn’t refunded.
Does a new wool comforter smell?
It can have a light natural wool (lanolin) smell at first. Sleep & Beyond says it fades within one to two weeks of airing, and buyers who mention it say airing it for a day helped.
