The content on sleepgood.org is general information about sleep. It is not medical advice, and it does not replace a diagnosis or treatment from a doctor or another qualified health professional. Our articles are not written or reviewed by doctors.
See a doctor if
- someone has seen you stop breathing, choke or gasp in your sleep;
- you are very sleepy in the day, even after a full night in bed;
- you have trouble sleeping most nights for several weeks;
- you have chest pain, a racing heart, or high blood pressure along with poor sleep;
- a child snores most nights or stops breathing in their sleep.
These can be signs of sleep apnea or another condition that needs medical care. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.
Products and supplements
Anti-snoring devices, pillows and similar products can reduce snoring. They do not treat sleep apnea unless a doctor prescribes them for it. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before you start a supplement or change a medicine, especially if you are pregnant, take other medicines or have a health condition. Follow the maker’s instructions and warnings for any product.
Research changes
We check our articles against published sources, but research and advice change over time. Do not ignore medical advice or delay getting care because of something you read on this site.
